The military historical sites of Lieksa are mainly in the directions of Nurmijärvi and Inari. Only the sites in the direction of Nurmijärvi are introduced as a one whole destination here.
Military historical sites
The original traces of the wars are still visible in many places. You can explore the restored defence positions of the Winter War in Änäkäinen and Puuruunjärvi lake. At Jukola’s Motti you can learn about the Rukajärvi road of the Continuation War. Memorials and memorial plaques of the Winter War and the Continuation War are located throughout the municipality area.
Guided military history tour
The military history tour in Nurmijärvi takes about seven hours, during which it is possible to get acquainted with the key battle sites. The driving distance from Nurmijärvi is approximately 45 km.
