In the Footsteps of Brigade Vuokko

Last weekend, we took a tour to follow the path of Brigade Vuokko in Kuhmo. This brigade constituted the other half of Colonel Siilasvuo’s 9th Division and played a key role in stabilizing the situation in the Kuhmo sector. It was an interesting journey into a perhaps lesser-known chapter of Winter War history. The day’s tour concluded at the memorial plaque dedicated to Captain Taube. He fell in action on 8 December 8 1939, in the Rasti area while leading his battalion in an attack. Honor to the heroes of the fatherland.
